People of Bermondsey : Meet Harry, co-founder of In-SE1 Wellbeing and Gift Shop
Please introduce yourself and tell us how your Bermondsey story began?
Hello, my name is Harry Hussein, born in Tanzania, East Africa in 1966. I came to England as a teenager and went to St Micheals secondary school in Bermondsey. I have lived in Bermondsey for 40+ years.
Tell us about your local Bermondsey business?
In SE1 has now closed for business as of 2022.
Myself and a friend, another local resident Lee Francis set up In SE1 with wellbeing at the ethos of the brand; we stock flowers, plants, handmade jewellery and essential oils. We also offer it as a tea shop serving tea and cakes.
Describe Bermondsey in 3 words
I love SE1
What is your Bermondsey secret?
Our shop In SE1, located on Tower Bridge road near to Manzes Pie & Mash and LeChevalier.
Where’s your favourite place to meet up with friends and family in Bermondsey and why?
The Britannia Public House on Kipling street, Kirby estate, it's a great local traditional pub with a fantastic palm tree garden.
Must do in Bermondsey for a tourist.
I love the new and rustic outdoor venues such as Mercarto Metropolitano, Flat Iron Square and Vinegar Yard. Must visit!
How do you feel about the changes to Bermondsey over the years?
Bermondsey was a dumping ground when we got here; now gentrified and the most prestigious place to live and work. I love it and will be here forever.
Thank you.
